Travelling Old School: The Train Stations of India

A unique system of transport

Travelling by train is one of the best ways to see, explore and experience India and I found it to be quite unique amongst all other rail systems in Asia. No matter what part of the India I was in, travelling by train allowed me to witness some amazing and unusual scenes of the cities, countryside, wildlife and the local people going about their everyday lives.

Indian train stations themselves also proved to be unique. No matter what time of the day I found myself at one, whether it was midday or the midnight, they were noisy, bustling and crowded but at the same time very interesting. Navigating the crowded platforms could sometimes be a challenge, especially in the middle of the night where dozens of people would just be sleeping on the platform waiting hours for their trains, as it would be common for trains to be hours behind schedule.

The photos below are just a few of the many scenes I witnessed in and around train stations and on the train journey itself. Click on any image below to open a slideshow.
